Giving Thanks as the Year Winds Down

In Canada, Thanksgiving is always celebrated on the second Monday of October. Like many countries worldwide, we use this day to thank the people in our lives, the opportunities we’ve been given, and the things we have. But let’s keep in mind, however, that just like how different countries celebrate on different days, there isn’t only one day for us to reflect and give thanks.

An excellent place to start is by reflecting on what you’ve accomplished so far and giving thanks to the people who helped get you there. What are you most proud of? Is there anything that you thought was out of reach that you did manage to achieve? What goals have you set for yourself, and how many of them have you accomplished or made significant progress on?

Journaling

This is the perfect time to take out your journal and review your goals for this year. Keeping track of the progress you’re making not only keeps you on track and gives you a clear focus on what you need to do but also gives you a better understanding of when you will complete something.

Read back through the entries that you’ve been making throughout the year. Remind yourself of the progress you’ve been making and if you haven’t been doing so already, take some time to celebrate your accomplishments. Giving thanks to yourself is just as important as giving thanks to others. Even the small things are worth celebrating.

People

Take some time to thank the people who have been there for you during your successful journey. So many times, these blogs have said it, but we are not an island. We are social creatures, and we need the help of others to achieve our goals.

Reach out to the members of your success squad and thank them. Make sure that they know that you appreciate everything they’ve done for you and you value them.

How will you be giving thanks today?

This Thanksgiving was amazing. I will practice this more often and not wait for the month of October to give thanks
